The New Urbanism Charter is the guiding document of the New Urbanism movement, drawn up in 1983.
While offering a comprehensive view of sustainable urbanism from the region’s scale to block and building, CNU members have undertaken an effort to clarify and detail the relationship between New Urbanism and sustainability.
The resulting document, The Canons of Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism, released in 2008 is drafted as a set of operational principles for human settlement that re-establishes the relationship between the art of building, community creation and the preservation of our natural world.
